We enjoyed getting underway with our instructional writing this week. We made tasty toast and then wrote instructions. We began sombrero art this afternoon, focusing on drawing detailed patterns and carefully painting these in vibrant colours. We also had a wonderful Kimihia session, the kale pesto we made was a big hit! Here is the recipe if you would like to make some with your child:

5 Minute Kale Pesto
2 cups of torn kale (no stems) and parsley, combined
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 clove garlic
Juice of one lemon
1/4 to 1/2 cup of raw almonds/walnuts

The following websites have compartmentalised lunch boxes, reusable wraps and other eco friendly lunch box options:
https://sistemaplastics.com/products/lunch
https://kaicarrier.co.nz/
https://www.thelunchboxqueen.co.nz/

Ways in which the cards can be used:
- As flashcards holding up to be read one at a time.
- Laid out on floor/table, ask your child to find a particular word.
- Make a second set and play memory.
- Make sentences using the words.
Please look after these cards as they will be returned once your child can confidently and consistently read all the words.

Phonics books: A phonics book will also be coming home this week in your child's reading folder. Your child will complete two pages of the book per week. On each page they will trace and write the letter, colour in the picture and draw/stick pictures in. Instructions are at the front of the phonics book.
